Clip art: Energy and emissions
From serveral sources I have accumulated “clip art”, mostly graphs, shared here. The by far largest source in this collection comes from Our World in Data. Individual graphs have usage information included (and can be found/reconstructed on the OWID site).
Electricity
Power source costs
Overall cost of wind and photovoltaic power has fallen dramatically, something other power sources haven’t. Will they keep falling, will other power sources start falling in price?
Electricity production Europe and Middle East
What is the electricity mix in some representative EMEA countries, and the EU, both in total production (in TWh) and in shares. Former will have wiggly lines, the other rectangles fixed at 100%
EU’s upgraded ambitions for 2030
The two graphs below from Ember shows how EU 2030 targets have increased from 2019 (when “climate crisis” started to replace “climate change”) to 2022 (after the pandemic, #FitFor55, and the invasion of Ukraine #REpowerEU).
In 2019, the EU power mix was 39% fossil, 27% nuclear, 34% renewables. Two years later that was 36% fossil, 26% nuclear, 38% renewables (above).
The ambitions also changed. In 2019 the target was 26% fossil, 19% nuclear, 55% renewables. Or -1.2% fossil fuels, -0,6% nuclear, +1.7% renewables annually. In 2022 the target changed to 18% fossil, 19% nuclear, 63% renewables, or -1.9% fossil, -0.8% nuclear, +2.8% renewables annually.
